So, we are giving away one of the new songs from our soon to be released junior record. The release date is October 11th! The song we are giving away is called “Wake Up And Sleep.” It is about complacency and/or the bad habit of taking the closest people to us for granted, which we all are guilty of from time to time. Sometimes our times of clairvoyance are short lived. Sometimes we don’t realize we are neglecting ourselves and those around us at all. Perhaps it’s because we trust them so much, that our loved ones are the first to bare the neglect and also the first to be expected to help us back on our feet. Wake Up And Sleep is about someone that wakes up everyday and basically goes through the motions of their day (like he/she is asleep in a sense). It is almost like he/she wakes up, and immediately looks forward to sleeping again. Therefor every action takes them closer to an escape from reality. (There are love-song elements thrown in there too:) All this sounds depressing…I know.
Another perspective: This depressing idea is kind of a beautiful thing in some ways. This is a picture of a type of pain. Pain has a few attributes! One is that pain wakes us up sometimes…and reminds us of our humanity. For example, tomorrow is Sep. 11th! There are still families that carry their wounds around with them every day, mourning loved ones lost. All of us remember exactly where we were and what we were doing on that day. Thus pain, has made us remember our humanity and has hardened the “glue” that holds us together as a “family of Americans.” We are a different nation because of Sep. 11th. Although the song is not specifically about 9/11, this analogy viewed through an individualistic lens, hopefully helps you understand the inspiration for “Wake Up And Sleep.”
